Stoneflies

Hitting a hatch of adults is often unpredictable, but the nymphs of the Salmonfly and Golden Stone are available all year long in western rivers – these insects are found in good numbers in freestone streams with a swift current, and in the headwaters of mountain streams. The hatches of adults are stream specific, usually late spring and early summer. If you’re a fan of night fishing, a large dry pattern skated on a downstream drift can bring explosive strikes if the adults have been around recently.
